Album Review:
Once in a while, an album comes along which reminds me that many of us take music too seriously. The Greatest Show Unearthed has a macabre and novelty sound that's reminiscent of a Tim Burton movie soundtrack, or a Crypt-Kickers release. But the album is far from retro, with a sound not unlike Marylin Manson's or Rob Zombie's.
The songs can be campy, but are written and produced very well. Creature Feature's Erik X and Curtis RX nailed the overall theme of the album by paying attention to the subtle (and some not-so-subtle) production elements. Some of the songs are crafted to actually sound like they are performed by a group of ghouls. "Gorey Demise", which lists the various methods that people die, is a twisted way you can teach your little monsters the alphabet.
On the whole, this album sounds more like a movie soundtrack than a normal release from a band. And though this album, with its theatrical nature, may have a narrow appeal, it sounds like Creature Feature had tremendous fun making it… and I had fun listening.
