Album Review:
Maynard James Keenan's latest project, Puscifer, is nothing like what you may be familiar with in Tool or A Perfect Circle. V is for Vagina is a dark and dirty album is comprised of lush and deep audio layers. It's very interesting to listen to this facet of Keenan's creativity.
The music doesn't strive for elitism with overly complex production and musical progressions. Instead, it relies on deep simple textures to create an atmosphere quite fitting for the themes of the songs. These are great songs to groove to, preferably in a state of lust.
The repeating samples and vocals are like a prurient chant... a Bacchanalian prayer. Keenan's vocals are deep and rich, incomparable to previous works. This isn't an effort that breaks new ground to build something new, but instead relies on an already established foundation on which to lay its bricks. Be sure to give this one a listen.
