Boxcar Collision
Editor's Pick:
Boxcar Collision brings together many great things about alternative pop into one package. Not content to try to emulate just one sound, the music has a few twists and turns and can go from "Someone" a lamenting Cowboy Junkies-like piece, to faster up-tempo rockers like the song "Boxful".
I immediately liked what I heard just a few notes into the first song, so be sure to pick up a copy of their self-titled release on the Web site.
Bio:
Formed in 2003, Boxcar Collision started when 4 friends starting meeting weekly to jam. They were invited to play an open mic, and somewhere in-between the PJ Harvey and Gillian Welch covers, they realized they were a band.
Since then they’ve played Iota, The Velvet Lounge, DC9, and have written 15 original songs. Though not easily categorized, their sound has been compared to Rilo Kiley, The Pretenders, and The Smiths. Their debut CD was released in 2007.
