A Midnight Slam
An Interview with Al Baca of Midnight To Twelve
Interview Date: May, 2008
Type 3 Media: What's going to be the first single?
Al Baca: It will be "Slam." We're excited that this is going to be the first single off this record.
T3M: What was the most challenging song to write and record?
AB: I don't want this to come off arrogant in any way. I don't know if any of them were difficult. We play so much live that it's like clockwork. I think the ones that we paid special attention to were the last ones that we did. A song called "Good Morning Again", which is a very special song. It's probably one of the most specials points of our live show and the topic that it deals with. I think that one was difficult, only in the sense that we wanted to make sure we captured every aspect of the emotion. It was just one of those things where we kept going back to it to make sure that it was the very thing we wanted to convey. I really feel that we got it. It's on our MySpace right now for people to go listen to.
It really wasn't anything difficult. Writing music is a lot like giving birth. Not that I know what giving birth is like. When you have something in you... once it's there, it's going to come out. And it's your job to steer it, to nurture it, and deliver it in a healthy fashion. The studio is the moment the delivery happens. That's what Sylvia's job is. She steers it, and delivers it. That's what I would equate it to. A great experience.
T3M: The producer is like an additional band member, so finding the right one is the key. It could be the difference between recording a mediocre and a great album.
AB: I agree one-hundred percent. I thought it was so important because we have a great relationship. Because again, when you have something that you're so close to it's scary to let a stranger in. But for us, it's someone that's one of our best friends. and we highly respect her accomplishments. You're absolutely right. I think that's what makes it a great CD. It comes across sonically because of that.
T3M: It was recently announced that you have some big touring plans coming up.
AB: We'll be doing part of the Warped tour and it looks like we'll remain on the Warped tour promoting the CD and then playing clubs in the area. They'll be able to see us on the whole Warped tour. Then we have a date with Saliva in June and another one coming up in August with Shinedown as well. We're really looking to get out there and support some of these acts.
T3M: Anything you'd like to close with?
AB: We're coming to a city near you. We're excited to get out there. We're excited for people to experience our love show that have never had the opportunity. I think it will be the greatest compliment we always get is "we love to see you live." We're so proud of the CD that drops July 22nd, but we're anxious for people to hear it then come to a show and experience that.
T3M: Reading about you, your appreciation of the fans really shines through. And now speaking with you, I can really understand why. You're very enthusiastic and it's refreshing to hear. I'm excited for you because it's a good time for you.
AB: Yeah it is. Thank you so much. When we're in your area, please come to a show, we'd love to have you.
