Music is our passion

Lamb of God
with Trivium, Machine Head, and Gojira
March 21, 2007

I had a great time at this concert. I met several other photographers, all of which were professional and very nice.
Gojira was the first band to take the stage tonight. The crowd was still filing in during their set, so many missed their performance. Unfortunately for those people, they didn't realize what they were missing. Gojira put on an excellent and tight performance.
Gojira is a four-piece band from the town Bayonne on the South West coast of France. They've been making a name for themselves in Europe for the past 10 years, or so, and recently have been gaining momentum in the United States.
Machine Head was up next. Not only did they sound great, they looked great as well. They have a terrific stage presence... while they were screaming and thrashing on stage, the crowd responded in kind. They are touring in support of their sixth studio album The Blackening.
After shooting during the first 3 songs of Machine Head's set, we had to leave the pit in front of the stage and make our way to the back of the club. I ended up leading the way, and got caught-up in the mosh pit. I barley escaped almost getting hit in the face and knocked over... the only thing I cared about was the camera.
Following Machine Head was Trivium. Their performance was outstanding. Again, this is another band with great charisma and a great sound. Impressive. They were having a great time on stage, and that emotion... that energy, flowed into the crowd. I think, from the audience's perspective, a performance can be better when the bands are truly enjoying it.
Trivium Setlist: Intro, Entrance, Detonation, Like Light To The Flies, To The Rats, Unrepentant, A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation, Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr
Getting out of the pit was quite difficult again. We tried to exit in the opposite direction, hoping it would be easier. I went last this time, which worked out better. However, there was someone in the front who was pushing everybody around.
Lamb of God was the headlining act of the night. Their set was incredible. The crowd went crazy as soon as they took the stage. The metal barrier that separates the crowd from the pit (and stage) was almost toppled by the super enthusiastic waves of moshing fans.
Lamb of God Setlist: Hourglass, Again We Rise, Walk With Me In Hell, Ruin, Pathetic, As the Palaces Burn, Descending, More Time to Kill, Blacken The Cursed Sun, Bloodletting, 11th Hour, Now You've Got Something To Die For, Laid To Rest, Vigil, Redneck, Black Label
At times, this was a difficult show to photograph. The lighting was not great for photography... I had to duck a few times to avoid flailing fists and feet... one of the other photographers did get punched in the face, but I think she's alright. As it turns out, I was able to capture some amazing shots of these amazing performers.
What a great night, and an incredible experience. On each occasion that I'm able to witness a band's passion for what they love to do, I continue to be inspired, and become more passionate about what I am privileged to do... photograph them in all their splendid glory... and share my experiences with you.
