Sevendust
with Diecast, and Invitro

This was my first time attending a performance at this venue. Before the show, we got a nice tour of the backstage area so we could get my photo pass from the tour manager. The venue was already starting to get packed, even before the first band went on. A good sign.
Invitro came out onto the stage, each member’s head wrapped completely in aluminum foil. I got a kick out of the masks, as did the rest of the crowd. During their set they shed their masks, and shed any allusions that their performance was a “joke”. They completely tore up the stage, and kicked some ass! The crowd, waiting for the “hometown” band to come on, did not warm up to Invitro nearly as much as they deserved.
Diecast’s return to the Boston area did not disappoint. Paul Stoddard’s performance was emotional and intense. He has a great way of drawing the audience into the performance so that they can feel it too. It’s always great to see a band that is enjoying their performance and putting a lot of energy into. It just makes it more enjoyable to see and hear. Their cover of the Kenny Loggins hit “Danger Zone” was just one of many highlights from their set.
During the break, I had a chance to speak with Paul near the merch booths. He was a little surprised that a photographer was taking the time to meet and talk to the bands. I guess a lot of other photographers just take the photos and leave. He was having a lot of fun meeting fans and signing autographs.
Sevendust was the headlining act of the night. Their live sound is incredible. As soon as I heard them start playing all I could say was "wow". Their stage presence is equally impressive. The band was leaping around the stage, flying off of anything they could climb on. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since the release of their first album. They continue to prove why they are one of the most influential rock (alternative metal) bands around.
The venue was good to work in, because there was plenty of room in the pit to move around, and it was easy to get in and out. I didn’t have to worry about dodging flailing limbs. However the lighting was not as good as I hoped, which made taking photographs more difficult. But it's an experience that I wouldn't trade for anything.
