Static-X
with Otep, 2Cents, and Mastamindz

I was very excited to attend this show. I've been wanting to photograph these bands for quite some time. I've lost count of the number of times I've worked in this venue. Each time I come here, I always leave with something special… whether it's a new perspective, a new friend, or a better understanding of how quickly I can dodge the errant mosher.
Mastamindz, a local RI band, was the first band to play. Despite being the "local" act of the night, they certainly held their own. I expect that I'll be seeing this rap-metal act again.
When 2Cents appeared onstage, I was a bit surprised to see that the drummer, Adam O'Rourke, is also the lead singer. It's an interesting arrangement that I haven't encountered too often. They sounded great, and the crowd loved it.
Otep was late to take the stage due to some technical problems, and the crowd was anxious. When they finally started their set, audio problems plagued them for the first couple songs, and it was difficult to hear the vocals. But they muscled through it, and the issue was finally resolved. Otep's performance was awesome. The music sounded great, and the stage theatrics were truly a spectacle to behold.
The crowd was really into Otep. The mosh pit was insane. Even Otep made a comment about the pit. There was one big sweaty shirtless guy in the middle of the pit just tossing people around like they were rag dolls. I just avoided being crushed by a crowd surfer as he crashed to floor behind me.
Static-X was the headlining act of the night. They are touring in support of their latest studio release Cannibal. Bevan Davies, of Comes With The Fall, did an excellent job filling in for Nick Oshiro while his injured hand heals.
Wayne Static is a very imposing figure on stage. He has great facial expressions and his famous hair-do is even more impressive to witness in person than it is in pictures. The band sounded great. Their new material is some of their best, and heaviest to date. The crowd's response was even more intense than I had previously witnessed earlier in the night.
Overall, this was a great show to see. A good time was had by all. So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night. I hate to go and leave this pretty sight.
