Avenged Sevenfold

with Operator, The Confession, and Black Tide

November 12, 2007

Lupo's

Providence, RI

Black Tide, whose members range in age from 14-19, is one of the latest entries on the metal scene looking to revitalize the genre in ways that haven't been heard much since the '80s. They put on a great show to start the night. Despite being hungry for the headliner, the crowd provided Black Tide with a raucous reception. Watch for these guys… with a little more stage experience under their belt, they might be unstoppable.

The Confession, out of Orange County California, sports dueling lead guitars, pounding drums, driving bass lines, and a singer with great vocal range. The band had a lot of energy and got the crowd pumped up even more. The set seemed to end too abruptly and left me wanting more.

Operator came on stage and slapped the crowd in the face with their intense brand of metal. They are touring in support of their latest release, Soulcrusher. These guys sound like an amalgam of Velvet Revolver and Soundgarden, and put on a great live performance.

The crowd had been chanting their name in between sets, and finally got what their hearts desired. Avenged Sevenfold opened their set with "Critical Acclaim" from their new self-titled album. The set also contained the new tracks "Almost Easy", "Scream", and "Afterlife". Almost the entire crowd was singing along to many of the songs, which is always a cool spectacle to witness.

The band was very lively on stage and seemed to be enjoying the boisterous feedback from the crowd. They did a great job of interacting with the crowd. They sounded great too. The vehicle that is the band's chemistry was definitely firing on all cylinders. This was a great show that shouldn't be missed.
